The Sycamore at Gateway is a proposed mixed-use, sustainable, real estate development featuring 500 residential living units ranging from 600 square foot apartments to 2000 square foot condominiums with views of uptown Charlotte and the North Carolina mountains. The proposed project features 30,000 square feet of class-A office space, and over 30,000 square feet of retail space including an urban grocer as the anchor tenant. The multi-use project will feature more affordable housing for local residents. The project plan features three green-roofs, one of which will be new sports field and playground area for Irwin Academic Center. Other features include an improved county Green-way, covered parking, walk-able access to Ray's Splash Planet indoor water park & gymnasium, plus other amenities make this both a destination and ideal lifestyle location for "Live, Learn, Work,& Play" in the Charlotte area. Irwin Academic Center, is the only CMS full magnet program for Learning Immersion (K-2) and Talent Development (Academically Gifted-grades 3-5) students. Both programs are accelerated and offer students rigorous and academically challenging curricula. The Villa Heights' program, which is now at Irwin, has been consistently recognized as an "Honor School of Excellence". Sycamore has proposed to provide millions of dollars in earmarked funds that could be used for needed renovations and infrastructure improvements, ongoing maintenance for more than 20 years, and perpetual funding for a special academic teaching position.
